Ep. 189 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Bone Tomahawk (Ravenous vs. We Are What We Are)

On this episode we track cannibals across a triple feature of films. First we posse up with Kurt Russell and his fantastic mustache for the new film BONE TOMAHAWK. We are then joined by friend of the show Derek Stewart who has no mustache but talks 1999’s RAVENOUS vs. 2013’s WE ARE WHAT WE ARE. In the former, Guy Pearce is adopted into a cannibal family of soldiers exiled from society, while the latter introduces us to a long line of cannibals under threat of exposure by a small town detective. We also debate the leading man abilities of James Woods, who has nothing to do with any of these films.

Ep. 188 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Burnt (Big Night vs. The Hundred-Foot Journey)

On this episode we get BURNT with Bradley Cooper as we have a full course meal of films dealing with differences in the kitchen. In 1996’s BIG NIGHT, two brothers battle over the direction of their failing restaurant, one unwilling to bow down to local customer ignorance, the other afraid of returning home to a less exciting life. Whereas 2014’s THE HUNDRED FOOT JOURNEY sees an initial cultural clash between an Indian family and a French woman that produces a better experience by combining sensibilities of the two. Joining our show to provide some True Bromance Film Podcast sensibilities is the host of that show and returning guest Jairo.

Ep. 186 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Steve Jobs (Pirates of Silicon Valley vs. Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine)

On this episode we steal, like all great artists do, from the new Danny Boyle/Aaron Sorkin film STEVE JOBS by using our own three act structure focused on different movie launches on this man’s life.  In the TNT television film PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY, the focus is primarily on the battle Jobs and Apple had with Bill Gates and Microsoft, released at a time when Microsoft was the clear victor in this battle back in 1999. Then we jump ahead to a new documentary that arrived this year from Alex Gibney called STEVE JOBS: THE MAN IN THE MACHINE. This film questions the deification of Jobs by the general public and thus offends me as I type this on my iMac. But first, returning guest Ben from the podcast  Cinematic For the People  joins me for a film that presents the deification of Aaron Sorkin in STEVE JOBS.

Episode 184 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Pan (Hook vs. Finding Neverland)

On this episode we give the people what they want, a PAN spectacular, as we discuss a film that has probably already been exiled from theaters, YET ANOTHER reimagining of the Peter Pan story, one that has been toyed with before as we see with HOOK where Peter Pan grows up, and in FINDING NEVERLAND where J.M. Barrie starts hanging out at the park with kids for inspiration. And yes,  we  realize how illicit that sounds. Thankfully Natasha from Kentucky Geek Girl joins us to keep things above board, but before that, Brendan from the InSession Film podcast paid his debt for many guest appearances on his show… by talking PAN.
