99 FROM 99: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

We hustle our listeners to yet another episode on the films from 1999... although on this one we are keeping in tradition of this one arriving a bit later to the States, so yes, for you sticklers out there this is originally a 1998 film. But no matter! Celebrate with us the arrival of future action star Jason Statham in the movie that started his career as well as director Guy Ritchie. For better or worse we've all managed to survive their filmography, but how does LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS hold up in 2018? 99 FROM 99: Cruel Intentions

On our latest episode of   99 FROM 99 , one host discovers some disturbing secrets about his co-host. All will be revealed in this episode on guilty pleasure CRUEL INTENTIONS! Namely that one host disagrees with the verdict of feeling guilt for enjoying this look at the cutthroat world of the powerful and wealthy transported to the realm of high school drama. Meanwhile the other host just feels bad for Selma Blair and all parties involved, including our dear listeners. Did we mention to give us a follow and a listen at the links below? 99 FROM 99: Analyze This and The Sopranos

Just when we think we are out, the mob entertainment of 1999 pulls us back in for the Robert De Niro/Billy Crystal comedy ANALYZE THIS and James Gandolfini in the start of TV's modern Golden Age THE SOPRANOS. The latter caused one host to pass on the former Harold Ramis film until the recording for this podcast, while the other host took a pass on David Chase's landmark series until much later. How do both of these mob hits hold up now? Find out in our latest episode and at the links below: Listen  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99

99 FROM 99: 8MM

We have a bit more fun revisiting films for this podcast than the character played by Nicolas Cage in 8MM. This Joel Schumacher directed movie from late February 1999 follows a private investigator as he is tasked with determining the authenticity of a "snuff film." In this episode we determine the authenticity of this critical misfire and determine if the complaints of screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker would have possibly changed the response. And with almost twenty years since its release, maybe our response has. Find out in our latest episode of   99 from 99 ! Listen  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99

99 FROM 99: October Sky

Dare to dream with us as we travel back to the days before rich men fired sports cars into space, to the simpler days when Jake Gyllenhaal was just a young actor playing a young man in West Virginia dreaming of space and a way out of a coal mining future. One of our hosts has no history with OCTOBER SKY, nor any history background when it comes to space exploration, and the other host sees this Joe Johnston film as something of a hidden gem (while also having no practical knowledge about rockets or space exploration). 99 FROM 99: Office Space

Our first cult classic from 1999 is the Mike Judge film OFFICE SPACE which one of our hosts gets to say with some degree of pride that he was an early adopter, having seen it in its failed theatrical run. However most caught up with this on video and now we look back at this often quoted film and find the complaints of our heroes in this film to possibly be unrelatable in the 2018 work environment. Join us with your minimum 15 pieces of flair and a couple of earbuds and take a trip with us to the simpler days of the working man's dreams. 99 FROM 99: Message in a Bottle

Just in time for Valentine's Day (okay maybe almost twenty years later but still) we   pick up MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, the first film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel (YOU'RE WELCOME) starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright and Paul Newman. Was this the peak of the Cinematic Sparks Universe or perhaps one of our hosts would argue for guilty pleasure SAFE HAVEN? Meanwhile your other host laments that these films should even be approached as guilty pleasures, which allows all of us to swoon over the chance to see Mr. Newman deal out some advice in the ways of love. Happy Valentine's Day and continue to share the love by following us at the links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99 Listen on  iTunes / Podbean

99 FROM 99: Payback

Our third episode is the first where we actually have the filmmaker himself reevaluating his work from 1999, PAYBACK, as Brian Helgeland eventually released his director's cut of the film The Straight Up Edition. Since we don't like anyone encroaching on our territory we take him to task for this along with the choices that separate his version and the one that the studio preferred that represented more of what a Mel Gibson audience would expect. Feel free to take us to task at the social media links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99

99 FROM 99: Gloria

We give the Internet what it demands: a reappraisal of the SIDNEY LUMET remake of the JOHN CASSAVETES film GLORIA. Given that small demographic target we hope you find yourself pleasantly surprised, as we did, with some of the charms of this SHARON STONE mobster dramedy. To get even more into character (and who doesn't pass up on a chance to cosplay for a podcast on the remake of GLORIA?) listen to this podcast pantless! From the comfort of your home of course, if you are at work keep your pants on but pass along your love for 99 FROM 99 to your co-workers and follow us at the links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99

99 FROM 99: Varsity Blues and She's All That

Welcome to the first episode of  99 FROM 99  and join us as we take a chronological look back at the films from 1999, the greatest year in movies! Your hosts  Michael Denniston  and  Ben Zuk  begin, as most years at the cinema do, with the entertainment with no hope for Oscar gold... but maybe, just maybe, a whipped cream bikini temptress will prove enough. VARSITY BLUES and SHE'S ALL THAT were early box-office hits of this year, and we'll see how they hold up now that your hosts are decidedly not in the target demographic, BUT the waves of nostalgia may be just strong enough to break them.
