Episode 139 We are ringing in the new year with champagne, movie yapping, and dreams about the prospects of the coming year. To celebrate the occasion, we're ogling Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as they dance their way through the latest from Damien Chazelle, La La Land. I've heard a bunch of armchair critics claim that 2016 has been the worst year in film history. This statement is clearly hyperbolic in nature and should be considered with the same seriousness as someone who populates their reviews with statements like "FANTASTIC BEATS is the greatest film adaptation of all time" or "CAPTAIN AMERICA should be seriously considered for best picture." So, in an attempt to add a bit of positivity to our conversation I compiled a list of 26 films that made this year not only passable but a phenomenal year for film. Granted most of the films on this list are indies and docs but that just happens to be where my tastes lead me and hopefully, I can encourage you to see something you may have missed. Blade Runner 2049 is an upcoming 2017 American neo-noir science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-produced by Ridley Scott, written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. It is the sequel to Blade Runner and sees Harrison Ford reprise his role as Rick Deckard. It is set for release on October 6, 2017 in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.
