Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead's THE ENDLESS Opening March 23rd

THE ENDLESS, one of my favorite films from last years TriTribecalm Festival, will be opening March 23rd. Following their Lovecraftian modern cult classic SPRING, acclaimed filmmakers Moorhead and Benson return with this mind-bending thriller that follows two brothers who receive a cryptic video message inspiring them to revisit the UFO death cult they escaped a decade earlier. Hoping to find the closure that they couldn’t as young men, they’re forced to reconsider the cult’s beliefs when confronted with unexplainable phenomena surrounding the camp. As the members prepare for the coming of a mysterious event, the brothers race to unravel the seemingly impossible truth before their lives become permanently entangled with the cult. It exploits five full-bandwidth channels (the "five") and one low-frequency effects channel (the "

SOBER CINEMA: Twenty-Five Years Later - SCENT OF A WOMAN and CHAPLIN

Twenty-five years ago on this day, January 8th 1993, two actors would seek Oscar glory as Al Pacino and Robert Downey Jr. saw their films SCENT OF A WOMAN and CHAPLIN go into wide release across the country. Ultimately Pacino would claim an Academy Award for his role as Lt. Col. Frank Slade and some would argue that he would become defined by this character in future roles, continuing to play bombastic and brash, much to filmgoers pleasure or dismay. For Downey Jr. he attempted to define a man already famous from his work on the silver screen in this Richard Attenborough biopic of Charlie Chaplin. Looking back we lament the loss of Robert Downey Jr. the actor slipping into his role as opposed to playing a version of himself, and wonder if we've become far too comfortable as an audience with Al Pacino playing characters who make others uncomfortable. THE GRAND GESTURE: The Last Five Years

We kick off the new year as most people do... by reflecting on the film adaptation of musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. Since your hosts Mike and Dave have not a musical bone in their body (just very bitter ones) we welcome singer/songwriter  JACOB HALLER  on from the podcast  TELL ME ABOUT YOUR SONG  to explain the appeal of this film that opens with a song about heartbreak and closes with a song about heartbreak. Thankfully we are united in our defense of the great ANNA KENDRICK and are also graced by Mr. Haller re-writing one of the more troubling songs to be a bit more humorous and honest. I can not stress enough that your hosts Mike and Dave DO NOT SING on this episode. So feel free to listen! PROJECTING FILM: Mr. Roosevelt (Greenberg meets Young Adult)

MR. ROOSEVELT is what happens when one host assumes that this is a political thriller starring Gary Oldman, and instead is pleasantly surprised to find something far closer to Noah Baumbach's GREENBERG and Diablo Cody's YOUNG ADULT. In these three films about going home to reconnect with former friends and lovers, we did you the service of waiting to release this episode after the holidays... and also when you can take a look at Noel Wells' new comedy which has just hit Netflix streaming. Enjoy and hug your pets while listening! Facebook / Twitter / Instagram : @projectingfilm Hosts: Chris  @Following_Films  Mike  @warmachinehorse

MARK AS PLAYED: Darkest Hour and the Finest Hour of Gary Oldman

On this episode  Jairo  of  THE TRUE BROMANCE FILM PODCAST  and  Mike  of  SOBER CINEMA  debate the merit of Gary Oldman's performance in DARKEST HOUR as being his finest acting hour. The ultimate character actor is compared to such a distinguished group of peers that includes Nicolas Cage, Daniel Day Lewis, and Tom Brady. You may not have heard of these struggling artists, so we also bring in two great podcasts  AB FILM REVIEW  and  THE FLOP HOUSE  to help make our point on the validity of Gary Oldman as a performer as opposed to an actor. ALSO the hosts take the time out of Gary Oldman's march to an Oscar to settle some scores with James Franco and Eddie the Eagle. We think the Drexl version of Mr. Oldman would approve.
