The Toronto True Crime Film Festival Film Submissions Now Open

The Toronto True Crime Film Festival will have its first annual edition this June 8th - 9th, 2018 at The Royal Cinema in Toronto. Over the course of its two-night, five-screening run, the festival will showcase short and feature-length films surrounding the topic of true crime. TTCFF will spotlight both documentaries and fictionalized films based on true crimes, as well as include a retro screening, multimedia presentations, and panel discussions. Toronto True Crime Film Festival was born from one simple statement verbalized by Lisa Gallagher—an avid cinephile and lifelong true crime fanatic—during the course of a five hour train trip to Montréal’s Fantasia International Film Festival with her partner Steven Landry: “Somebody should start a festival that's just true crime movies!”. Soon after, the pair—who themselves have worked for a number of film festivals and screening series—put together a talented team of individuals to help make the whole thing happen. TTCFF is o

99 FROM 99: Message in a Bottle

Just in time for Valentine's Day (okay maybe almost twenty years later but still) we   pick up MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, the first film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel (YOU'RE WELCOME) starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright and Paul Newman. Was this the peak of the Cinematic Sparks Universe or perhaps one of our hosts would argue for guilty pleasure SAFE HAVEN? Meanwhile your other host laments that these films should even be approached as guilty pleasures, which allows all of us to swoon over the chance to see Mr. Newman deal out some advice in the ways of love. Happy Valentine's Day and continue to share the love by following us at the links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99 Listen on  iTunes / Podbean

PROJECTING FILM: Bomb City (SLC Punk! meets Fruitvale Station)

On our latest episode we discuss new release BOMB CITY and how we approach real life tragedy as entertainment. Does the apprehension we feel over the fate of the real life characters on screen add to our appreciation of the moments that the filmmakers chose to present? And just why was one of your hosts so damn nervous about possible life-changing events when watching SLC PUNK! for the first time? Find out this and maybe a little more as we once again praise Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan (what else is new?) in this episode and at the social media outlets below: Facebook / Twitter / Instagram : @projectingfilm Hosts: Chris  @Following_Films  Mike  @warmachinehorse Email us suggestions on indie films you are looking forward to at projectingfilm@gmail.com Theme music provided by the band  Good Talk Russ . SOBER CINEMA: Twenty Years Later - GREAT EXPECTATIONS and ZERO EFFECT

Twenty years ago on January 30th 1998, two cinematic characters who value their estrangement from the world presented the good and evil aspects of this lifestyle. In a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS, Anne Bancroft takes out her heartbreak on two children who will grow up to be Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke, while the world's greatest detective in ZERO EFFECT mainly just annoys his partner, much to our amusement. Maybe its being forced to read the novel in high school but we obviously lean towards the more comedic study of detachment as presented by Bill Pullman and Ben Stiller in Jake Kasdan's forgotten gem, but then again there may be something to The Florida Cinematic Universe starring Chris Cooper. Listen to our latest episode to see if we finally give this Dickens guy a break and follow at the links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @sobercinema

99 FROM 99: Payback

Our third episode is the first where we actually have the filmmaker himself reevaluating his work from 1999, PAYBACK, as Brian Helgeland eventually released his director's cut of the film The Straight Up Edition. Since we don't like anyone encroaching on our territory we take him to task for this along with the choices that separate his version and the one that the studio preferred that represented more of what a Mel Gibson audience would expect. Feel free to take us to task at the social media links below: Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99
