The 2023 Tribeca Festival, presented by OKX, today announced its lineup of short narrative, documentary, and animated films, as well as music videos. This year’s Festival, which takes place June 7-18, showcases 12 short film programs of diverse and creative storytelling. The 2023 shorts lineup includes 76 total selections – 62 shorts in competition, eight music videos, and six special screening shorts – from 91 filmmakers across 25 countries. The lineup includes 48 world premieres, three international premieres, two North American premieres, one U.S. premiere, and 22 New York premieres. Six directors return to Tribeca with their latest projects. With a record-breaking 8,096 total submissions, the lineup’s four categories – narrative shorts, documentary shorts, animated shorts, and music videos – are curated across thematic programs highlighting love, family relationships, LGBTQ+ stories, “Expressions of Black Freedom,” Latin America, resilience, and more.   On the eve of the Cannes Film Festival, XYZ Films has launched “New Visions,” an initiative designed to spotlight the boldest new voices alongside established talent striking a new path in the international space. The company has also hired Manon Barat as a dedicated sales executive working alongside long time Head of International Acquisitions Todd Brown to oversee the new slate of global sales titles.  True to the origins of XYZ, the New Visions initiative will be a highly curated collection of films. The slate exists to discover and support the next generation of great filmmakers at the inception of their career, and to give established talents room to do something smaller, more intimate, or challenging outside of the usual box of independent filmmaking.   XYZ will launch the new slate in Cannes with Directors’ Fortnight selection IN FLAMES, a Pakistani-Canadian horror film directed by Zarrar Kahn and executive produced by Shant Joshi.  Additional titles in the initial New Visions

  Twist-fuelled horror film HELL’S HALF ACRE, directed by John Patrick Tomasek, will be released worldwide this April from Terror Films. Hells Half Acre follows Marcus as he leads his group of young urban explorers Jessie, Dan, Jose, and Cassie to abandoned locations for their popular YouTube channel Strange and Abandoned Places with the goal of gaining ratings and paid sponsors. They quickly discover that the abandoned Rockland Heights Prison is unlike any other location they've ever been to before as strange things begin to occur almost immediately after their arrival. They discover they're not alone as it becomes a fight for their survival against terrifying and dangerous paranormal demonic entities.
