An early look at Get Hard

When millionaire hedge fund manager James (Will Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison. Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other. Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart join forces in the feature comedy “Get Hard,” also starring Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson. The film is directed by Etan Cohen, making his feature directorial debut following a successful writing career, with credits including “Tropic Thunder.” The screenplay is by Jay Martel & Ian Roberts and Etan Cohen, story by Adam McKay and Jay Martel & Ia

Interview with Bradford Lipson DP for Wilfred and The New Kevin Hart film The Wedding Ringer

Courtesy of Screen Gems Bradford Lipson is an incredibly gifted cinematographer whose work on Wilfred earned him the  Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Half-Hour Episodic Television Series from the ASC. His latest film is The Wedding Ringer and it open in theaters everywhere this Friday.   The role of DP is a complicated one. It’s both tactile and intangible. In a way I guess it’s the manipulation of light and shadow for the purpose of storytelling. How do you define the role of DP and what drew you to the profession? For me, the role of the DP is to help support the director in the telling of a story.  The lighting and lensing is all about pushing the story forward. As a DP, I get to add to this and be a vital part of the process, whether it’s lighting and lensing a scene to add more emotion, or to emphasize a comedic moment.  It’s also a technical role, which demands attention to detail, organization and being able to figure out how to block, light and shoo

Disney wants nothing to do with George Lucas's ideas for Star Wars 7

From Esquire , George Lucas has revealed that none of his ideas for future Star Wars episodes will be used by Disney. Prior to Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the filmmaker had penned treatments for Episode VII with the intention of directing the movie himself. However, Lucas revealed to CinemaBlend that JJ Abrams's Star Wars: The Force Awakens will depart from his ideas entirely. "The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those," Lucas said. "So they made up their own. So it's not the ones that I originally wrote [on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens]." Lucas is returning to movies with Strange Magic, an animated film he produced and conceived the storyline for. It will open in US cinemas on January 23.
