Episode 99 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Blackhat (Sneakers vs. Hackers)

On this episode we celebrate the ability of computers to bring people closer together, even when one party is uninvited. Hopefully you don't see us invading your earbuds in quite the same fashion that we view the hackers in the films SNEAKER and... well, HACKERS. This battle between the old and young is inspired by an old standby of portraying masculinity in film, director Michael Mann's latest work in BLACKHAT. GUEST: Patrick McGill of Role Play Craft comes in to judge the roller blading contest that is 90s cyber culture as portrayed in film.

Episode 01 of Original Remake: Infernal Affairs and The Departed

On the very first episode of the Original Remake podcast we discuss the origins of this show which has something to do with our first double feature selection of INFERNAL AFFAIRS and THE DEPARTED. Ultimately we seek answers to three questions: Does the remake do justice to the original? And if you just watch the remake do you get a good sense of why the original was successful or not successful and thus remade? But most of all which movie to watch, the original or the remake? Along the way we talk about the distinct cultural difference of moving the story from INFERNAL AFFAIRS to Boston, the advantage or disadvantage of having a big star like Jack Nicholson playing the big heavy, and the humorous whirlwind of vulgarity that is Dignam in THE DEPARTED.

Ep. 139 of War Machine vs. War Horse: What We Do In The Shadows (Vampire's Kiss vs. Dark Shadows)

On this episode we look at the comical life of vampires on film, a genre that doesn't get much play in Hollywood, and many would say rightfully so. However no one can deny that it is a place for notorious overacts such as Nicolas Cage and Johnny Depp to let their freak flags fly in VAMPIRE'S KISS and DARK SHADOWS. This battle of fanged actors over who can ham it up the most is inspired by the new video release of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS.

Ep. 113 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Fifty Shades of Grey (Nine 1/2 Weeks vs. Secretary)

On this episode we attempt to break out of the podcast rut and rekindle the flame by taking the advice of new video release FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and talking about two older films about a submissive and dominate relationship between a man in woman with 1986’s NINE 1/2 WEEKS and 2002’s SECRETARY. But the only real dominance to be seen is Mickey Rourke owning the screen with his magnificent 80s hair.  GUEST: Megan from the Screams and Moans podcast attempts to school not only us, but actor Jeremy Davies.

Episode 54 of Pop Culture Case Study - Moulin Rouge and Jealousy

In this episode, Dave discusses a fan favorite, Moulin Rouge. Is this one as good as he remembers? Or will the untrained voices of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor prove faulty? Regarding psychology, he takes the easy way out and discusses sexual jealousy, easily one of the most clear themes of the film. Britt continues her trend of serious discussion topics, with a fixation on invisible illnesses. Listen! On this episode we are just three dudes, looking for some man on man action in a sub. And we get plenty of that with a triple feature inspired by the new video release BLACK SEA with a submarine battle between two classics in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and CRIMSON TIDE. We also give our listeners a glimpse of the process to our movie selection and how ROLLERBALL (the Chris Klein version) will be discussed on another podcast.

Ep. 109 of War Machine vs. War Horse - The Last Five Years (Begin Again vs. Song One)

On this episode we talk about two films that were released within the last year that combine romance, music, and the different perspectives two characters bring to those subjects with last summer’s BEGIN AGAIN, and the late winter release of SONG ONE. But first, an even newer release which just hit DVD and Blu-ray is discussed with writer/director Richard Lagravanese on his musical screen adaptation of THE LAST FIVE YEARS.
