Focus Features has acquired the worldwide rights to Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, the new documentary about the life and work of Mister Fred Rogers. From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), the documentary is a Focus Features presentation of a Tremolo Production, in association with Impact Partners and Independent Lens/PBS. It is set to be released on June 8, 2018. Focus chairman Peter Kujawski made the announcement today. Wild Eye Releasing runs rings around Mad Max this December with director Brett Bentman’s post-apocalyptic thriller Apocalypse Road. Fuel up on a powerful mix of The Road and Fury Road as Apocalypse Road chronicles the tense journey of two sisters separated during a post-apocalyptic depression. A sweat-inducing story about the instinct of human survival and unbreakable bonds, the film stars Katie Kohler (Subterranea), Ashlyn McEvers (22 Jump Street), Billy Blair (Machete, Machete Kills) and Nellie Sciutto (Shutter Island).  Following a post-apocalyptic event, two sisters are hunted down and separated by a gang of ruthless killers intent on creating their own twisted form of law and order. The Theta Girl, a feature film produced by first-time filmmakers David Axe and Christopher Bickel, is coming to film circuits this Winter. The film had its world-premiere in Atlanta on Friday the 13th of October at midnight -- a fitting time slot for opening what director Christopher Bickel calls "a brutally violent existential horror film." At the Atlanta screening, several audience members walked out of the film following one shocking scene depicting a violent home invasion. The audience members who remained were very vocal and enthusiastic about their enjoyment and appreciation of the film, one audience member writing in a comment online: "Holy sh*t! Talk about a low-budget MASTERPIECE. A gory drug-induced mystery! A psychedelic B Movie thriller! Roger Corman-esque Punk cinema that's WAY better and smarter than it should be! If you do a Google search for “Justice League” right now the first thing that will populate are the show times, then after that, you will see the IMDB page, Twitter, and Rotten Tomatoes page. That’s the same for pretty much every new release film. It’s what you find a few entries deeper that I find annoying. The countless articles and stories about how the #1 film in the world is a box office failure. I’m not here to support or tear down that assertion because I think it’s pointless. Playing armchair studio executive was once a game relegated to the financial pages and CNBC but now it’s not just Forbes analyzing the red and black, it’s Esquire, GQ, EW, every movie blogger, Twitter fanboy, and “movie nerd” deep diving into the commerce side of the business called show.
