THE GRAND GESTURE: That Awkward Moment

We bring on "The King of Cringe" for THAT AWKWARD MOMENT, something our guest  JARED DOTSON  of  SOBER CINEMA  takes issue with. However much to our surprise, he does not take issue with this not so well regarded romcom from 2014 starring Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller as three guys making a pact to navigate single life together after one friend's marriage ends. And while the romances don't particularly work here (except for the one with the great Mackenzie Davis who makes any role work) this boys club movie ends up having its own particular charms. Like a combination of ice cream and bourbon this one goes down easy in our latest episode you can find here and at the links below: Listen on  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @grandgesturepod Hosts: Dave  @pccasestudy  Mike  @warmachinehorse Email us your favorite romantic grand gestures in film at  grandgesturepod@gmail.com Theme music by  Soft and Furious Intro:  "Am

PROJECTING FILM: The Scent of Rain and Lightning (The Burning Plain meets Winter's Bone)

Thanks to the Nashville Film Festival we were able to check out THE SCENT OF RAIN AND LIGHTNING which stars Maika Monroe, a young actress who first got our attention in IT FOLLOWS. Maybe with that on the brain we ended up with an episode theme based around another previous rising star in Jennifer Lawrence and in particular her roles in feuding family films THE BURNING PLAIN and WINTER'S BONE. Thankfully (?) for our listeners this is a far more agreeable episode and we woiuld be even more agreeable if you gave us a follow at the links below:  Facebook / Twitter / Instagram : @projectingfilm Hosts: Chris  @Following_Films  Mike  @warmachinehorse Email us suggestions on indie films you are looking forward to at projectingfilm@gmail.com Theme music provided by the band  Good Talk Russ . The song is Build It Up off their album The Panglossian Travels of the White Elephant.

BLACK EAGLE - Blu-ray Review

About The Film After an F-11 gets shot down over the Mediterranean Sea, The United States government cannot afford to lose the top-secret laser tracking device that was on board. But unfortunately, the KGB team, lead by the infamous Andrei (Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Expendables 2, Universal Soldier), are beating the CIA in the race to find it. The CIA has no choice but to call in their best man, master martial-artist Ken Tani (Sho Kosugi, Ninja Assassin, Revenge of the Ninja), code name... BLACK EAGLE . In response, the KGB resorts to an all-out war, with powerful Andrei matching Ken blow for blow. From legendary action director Eric Karson (The Octagon), Black Eagle also stars Doran Clark (The Warriors), Bruce French (Jurassic Park III) and William Bassett (House of 1000 Corpses). BLACK EAGLE is one of my favorite JCVD vehicles and this MVD release gives it the kindest treatment the film has ever received. Between the limited throwback, VHS inspired slipcover and the pos

SOBER CINEMA: Five Years Later - SAFE HAVEN and LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE

We hit the road with two women on the run from abusive relationships and provide some abuse of our own to two films that opened on Valentine's Day 2013: SAFE HAVEN and LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE. Perhaps misreading these two movies but enjoying them nevertheless we examine just why a pie recipe is a smoking gun to a police detective, and if you are a retired professor providing sanctuary to a high end escort... STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. All of this and not much more can be found in this episode and at the links below: Listen:  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @sobercinema

99 FROM 99: Analyze This and The Sopranos

Just when we think we are out, the mob entertainment of 1999 pulls us back in for the Robert De Niro/Billy Crystal comedy ANALYZE THIS and James Gandolfini in the start of TV's modern Golden Age THE SOPRANOS. The latter caused one host to pass on the former Harold Ramis film until the recording for this podcast, while the other host took a pass on David Chase's landmark series until much later. How do both of these mob hits hold up now? Find out in our latest episode and at the links below: Listen  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @99from99

ORIGINAL REMAKE: Perfect Blue and Black Swan

Inspired by the release of R E D S P A R R O W , we decide to review another movie involving a bird of color, Darren Aronofsky's B L A C K S W A N which was inspired by Satoshi Kon's P E R F E C T B L U E . Despite being one of our shorter episodes, we still manage to bring up ballet, overbearing mother's that can bake and hentai. PROJECTING FILM: The Party (Rebecca meets Rope)

On this episode we throw a Hitchcock themed podcast party for Sally Potter's new film THE PARTY. This Kristen Scott Thomas and Patricia Clarkson starring movie is fast, aggressive, and darkly funny; which means that this cast of characters would fit in nicely at a dinner party to celebrate getting away with murder in the 1948 classic ROPE. Or maybe the focus would be on the missing guest such as in the other Alfred Hitchcock joint REBECCA? We'll let you decide as you can listen to the episode and give us feedback at the links below: Facebook / Twitter / Instagram : @projectingfilm Hosts: Chris  @Following_Films  Mike  @warmachinehorse Email us suggestions on indie films you are looking forward to at projectingfilm@gmail.com Theme music provided by the band  Good Talk Russ . SOBER CINEMA: Twenty Five Years Later - GROUNDHOG DAY and BRAINDEAD

On February 12, 1993 the world was introduced to the curse of two rodents at movie theaters in Harold Ramis' GROUNDHOG DAY and Peter Jackson's BRAINDEAD (or DEAD ALIVE in the States). We decide which of these curses are harder to stomach: eating the disgusting custard in the low budget horror film or falling in love with the incorrigible Bill Murray in the classic comedy. Come be disgusted by us in this episode and at the links below: Listen:  iTunes / Podbean Facebook / Instagram / Twitter : @sobercinema

THE True Bromance Film Podcast - Annihilation

Episode 191 Alex Garland had the film community buzzing with his directorial debut, Ex Machina and now he's looking to do it again with his latest effort, Annihilation. Garland assembles an all star cast to give us another science fiction thinker and we do our best to keep up with his all star casting efforts with one of our own. We are joined the by Nasty Hell Cat, Jared Dotson (@BigBalderBrand) of the great Sober Cinema Podcast (@sobercinema), to pass judgement on Annihilation. MOVIES DISCUSSED THIS WEEK: That Awkward Moment, Black Panther, The Boss Baby, The Godfather, Boomerang, The Red Turtle, Chris Rock: Tambourine, Annihilation
