BORN GUILTY interview w/ Max Heller

BORN GUILTY is the story of a lonely and frazzled New York social worker (Rosanna Arquette) who can’t resist the urge to intervene in her son Marty’s life. Meanwhile, Marty (Jay Devore) is trying to be creative in his advertising career and manage a romantic relationship at the same time, on top of constantly talking his mother off the ledge. When Marty’s free- spirited Aussie pal Rawl (David Coussins) shows up, Marty hires Rawl to see Judy and “restore her to health” — any way it takes. Director Max Heller’s heartfelt, ensemble comedy is filled with wry, sly, funny and sexy connections reminiscent of Nora Ephron, Neil Simon, Woody Allen, The Farrelly Brothers and Rob Reiner’s romantic concoctions. BORN GUILTY is currently available on iTunes . CADDYSHACK: THE MAKING OF A HOLLYWOOD CINDERELLA STORY Audio book Review

This month, Audible Studios released the audio version of CADDYSHACK: THE MAKING OF A HOLLYWOOD CINDERELLA STORY , in which Entertainment Weekly film critic Chris Nashawaty goes behind the scenes of the iconic film, chronicling the rise of comedy’s greatest deranged minds as they form The National Lampoon, turn the entertainment industry on its head, and ultimately blow up both a golf course and popular culture as we know it. The Audible book, which released simultaneously with the print version, is narrated by Peter Berkrot, who also played Angie D'Annunzio in the original  CADDYSHACK . The book goes into how the gopher ended up in the film, spends some time on the infighting, the drug abuse, and other salacious elements surrounding the production, but the book is at its core a deeply human story about the life and early demise of National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney.  While at Harvard University, Kenney was the manager of The Harvard Lampoon. There, he was a pa

COLD NOVEMBER - Review

2018 Director: Karl Jacob Stars: Bijou Abas, Karl Jacob, Anna Klemp, and Hedi Fellner The transition from adolescence to adulthood is marked by several physical and emotional shifts that are both subtle and overt. How individual cultures recognize that metamorphosis is as varied as people themselves. While most of us do something to mark the occasion, very few of us do exactly the same things. Be it a Bar Mitzvah, Quinceaneras, or an Inuit Hunting ritual most of us chose to recognize this incredibly awkward time with a rite of passage that underscores our youth while inching us closer to masculinity or femininity.    In COLD NOVEMBER , 12-year-old Florence (Bijou Abas) is eager to undergo the traditionally male rite-of-passage in killing her first deer. Passed down through many generations of women in her family, the act of hunting symbolizes her transition into adulthood. Moments before her first period Florence is seen playing with a Matchbox car. A powerful (albeit

THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS - Trailer

No Sesame. All Street.  THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS  is a filthy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. Looks to be somewhere between MEET THE FEEBLES , WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT , and CHINATOWN ... I'm in!!!

THE SACRIFICE Blu-ray Review

Alexander (Erland Josephson) the well to do patriarch of a Sweedish family is celebrating his birthday on a remote island when news of a new World War breaks. The previously relaxed and cheerful mood of the family morphs to terror. They immediately begin to spiral out of control, devastated by the catastrophic news. The film's masterful cinematography by Sven Nykvist (Ingmar Bergman's longtime collaborator) underscores the emotional state of the family through its color palette and movement. The arresting choice of color displays a bleak landscape around the families home. Painfully long shots evoke the sheer dread and anxiety that has engulfed this once carfree tribe. Alexander, philosophical in nature, is deeply worried about man's lack of spirituality. Faced with man kinds inevitable annihilation he is compelled to enter an agreement with God. The director's last film, made as he was dying of cancer, The Sacrifice is Tarkovsky's personal statement, a prof

ALL 10 STAR WARS FILMS RANKED

Star Wars is impossible to escape. Even the most casual film fans have an opinion on what entries in the series stand out among the best. So, with that in mind, we've decided to rank the current 9 releases including a speculative look at the upcoming Solo. 10. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story  (2016) I in no way think this is a bad film, but it is the least vital in the series. It tells the backstory of how the rebels got the plans that would eventually lead to the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars. It suffers from the same problem that all prequels have, inevitability, we have a good idea of exactly where this film is headed from the first frame. But the bigger problem here is with the characters. Unfortunately, the most dynamic and engaging personality in Rogue One is an android voiced (brilliantly) by Alan Tudyk. 9. Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999) I have a soft spot for this mess of a film. It's overly bloated and Jar Jar doesn't
