I AM THOR review

Have you heard of Thor? Not the Norse god or Marvel movie regular but the Canadian bodybuilder/Zombie Nightmare starring/rock dude who has been turning out theatrically inspired heavy metal for the better part of 40 years, have you heard of that guy? I'm assuming the answer is "no", unless your Scandinavian then the the answer is undoubtedly "ja".  Ryan Wise has done something truly spacial with I AM THOR, he made a film that is as amusing as it is heart warming. On the surface you wouldn't expect the story of a man who married the editor of Cherri magazine, bends steel and inflates hot water bottles till they explode to be inspirational but Jon Mikl Thor has spent most of his 60 years defying expectations. Jon Mikl Thor was a championship bodybuilder with over 40 titles to his name. In fact he was the only Canadian to win both the Mr. Canada and Mr. USA titles. After a brief stint as a naked waiter he set his sights on the music industry. Inspired by

Happy Birthday to one of the greats

Martin Charles Scorsese was born on November 17, 1942, in New York City, to Italian-American parents Catherine (Cappa) and Charles Scorsese. He was raised in the neighborhood of Little Italy, which later provided the inspiration for several of his films. Scorsese earned a B.S. degree in film communications in 1964, followed by an M.A. in the same field in 1966 at New York University's School of Film. During this time, he made numerous prize-winning short films including The Big Shave (1968), and directed his first feature film, Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967). He served as assistant director and an editor of the documentary Woodstock (1970) and won critical and popular acclaim for Mean Streets (1973), which first paired him with actor and frequent collaborator Robert De Niro . In 1976, Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976), also starring De Niro, was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and he followed that film with New York, New York (1977) and Th

All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records review

From its establishment in 1960, Tower Records was a uniquely American retailer that married a counter culture attitude with a Wall Street business sense. The once omnipresent powerhouse was more than just a place to buy the latest Taylor Swift offering. Tower represented something bigger and far more immediate, a company that appeared to extend a middle finger in the face of traditional business logic while becoming one of the biggest music chains in the world. Its hard to imagine but Tower had its humble beginnings in a small-town drugstore and eventually became to many the heart and soul of the music world, and a powerful force in the music industry. In 1999, Tower Records made $1 billion. In 2006, the company filed for bankruptcy. What went wrong? Everyone thinks they know what killed Tower Records: The Internet. But that's not the story. 'All Things Must Pass' is a feature documentary film examining this iconic company's explosive trajectory, tragic demise, an

Desire For Beauty Review

2013 Director: Miguel GaudΓͺncio Documentary, Poland  What is the meaning of beauty and what holds us back from seeing ourselves as beautiful? These are the central questions that drive GaudΓͺncio's film. The story follows four individuals who are about to undergo plastic surgeries in an attempt to make themselves aesthetically complete. While the four are all undergoing different procedures for varying degrees of vanity, they all share a sense of self-consciousness that has pushed them to a point where they don't see any other option, they MUST change the way they look. Its hard to watch this film without passing judgement on the four subjects. But if you allow premature evaluations to stand in the way of listening, the humanity of our advocates could be lost on you. Yes the central characters of this film are in fact our advocates, a direct reflection of our obsession with perfection. We are given insight to the motivations of our protagonists through fairly effe
