Ep. 189 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Bone Tomahawk (Ravenous vs. We Are What We Are)

On this episode we track cannibals across a triple feature of films. First we posse up with Kurt Russell and his fantastic mustache for the new film BONE TOMAHAWK. We are then joined by friend of the show Derek Stewart who has no mustache but talks 1999’s RAVENOUS vs. 2013’s WE ARE WHAT WE ARE. In the former, Guy Pearce is adopted into a cannibal family of soldiers exiled from society, while the latter introduces us to a long line of cannibals under threat of exposure by a small town detective. We also debate the leading man abilities of James Woods, who has nothing to do with any of these films.

Episode 174 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Results (Great Expectations vs. The Immigrant)

On this episode we talk  about one of our favorite films of the year, Andrew Bujalski’s RESULTS. This film is about two personal trainers played by Guy Pearce and Cobie Smulders whose lives are altered when a rich client arrives seeking to improve himself but finding the trainers themselves to be searching for something as well. This inspires a conversation on benefactors in film, and we start with the grandaddy of them all in Charles Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS. It goes up against James Gray’s latest love triangle set in a world of crime, with Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner both promising a better life for Marion Cotillard in THE IMMIGRANT. We also debate the effect that crickets and a computer fan can have on the sound quality of a podcast.

Episode 70 of Pop Culture Case Study - L.A. Confidential and Ambition

In this episode, Dave brings back a favorite guest, Michael Denniston from the War Machine vs War Horse podcast, to talk about L.A. Confidential.  Britt is, of course, back for more Fangirl Fixation and tells us how not confusing this movie really is despite other opinions.  Dave discusses the dangers of ambition before bringing in Mike for some excellent discourse on L.A. Confidential. The Value of Aiming High Ambition Gone Awry Career Success Listen! Fangirl Fixation: 0:03:51 Ambition: 0:17:14 L.A. Confidential with Michael: 0:28:14 Rate and Review on iTunes!

Episode 141 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Mad Max Fury Road (On the Beach vs. The Rover)

On this episode, a Kentuckian and an Arizonan watch the Apocalypse in Australia. This theme has us looking at the 1959 film warning of nuclear war in ON THE BEACH starring Gregory Peck and Anthony Perkins, going up against one of our favorite films of 2014 in THE ROVER starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. But first, declare the summer movie season over as we already have a champion in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
