Last night, Greig Fraser gave a remote acceptance speech for his work on DUNE. Members of the Academy, colleagues and fellow film artisans: I am honoured to receive this award from such a distinguished body, which celebrates the crafts of our industry. DUNE is greater than the sum of its parts, and I certainly wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my camera team, the sound department, the outstanding music composers, the hair and makeup artists, editors, costumers, art and production design departments. The list of people I am indebted to is too long to share, but you know who you are.  I’d have no business accepting this award without thanking my wife Jodie. You have been the greatest supporter and the reason I am able to forge my path in this challenging industry. And of course Denis Villeneuve. One strange interaction with the local townspeople after another, She soon realizes that something is not quite right in this small town. She must unveil the mystery behind her mother’s troubled past in order to make it out alive. Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Nasdaq: CSSE) company, announced today the acquisition of all North American rights to the upcoming horror movie The Accursed starring Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Sarah Grey (Power Rangers), Meg Foster (They Live), and Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect). Screen Media plans to release the film as a day and date release in Fall 2022. Directed by Kevin Lewis (Willy’s Wonderland), The Accursed follows a young woman who is forced to return home following the death of her mother. Consumed by guilt and desperate to escape the haunting visions playing out in her head, she takes a temporary caregiver position for a comatose old lady living alone in the woods.  It does not take long before she realizes that not all is as it seems and that the old lady harbors a demonic secret; an evil secret that the old lady’s daughter is intent on passing on.  The film is currently in post-production. Deaf Crocodile, in association with distribution partner Seagull Films, announced today the acquisition of a trio of celebrated Russian titles.  The companies will jointly release 4K restorations of famed Russian fantasy filmmaker Aleksandr Ptushko’s stunning 1956 medieval epic ILYA MUROMETS (THE SWORD & THE DRAGON), and his mystical 1959 Finnish/Soviet co-production SAMPO (THE DAY THE EARTH FROZE), as well as a 2K restoration of director Karen Shakhnazarov’s 1988 Kafkaesque satire ZEROGRAD (ZERO CITY).
