LAFF Interview w/ A CROOKED SOMEBODY Director Trevor White

Michael Vaughn’s minister father always told him: Better to be an honest nobody than a crooked somebody. But Michael doesn’t see the harm in giving people the closure they need with the dead and travels town-to-town professing his abilities as a spirit medium. One night, Michael is kidnapped. With a knife to his throat, Michael suddenly sees the opportunity of a lifetime in his psychologically unstable captor’s desperation to make contact with the other side. Intent on saving his floundering career, Michael sets out to become a celebrity TV psychic by solving the mystery of a high-profile crime in the national spotlight. A CROOKED SOMEBODY recently had its debut at the LAFF. The film is a throwback to the independent thrillers of the 90's that hooked me on films at an impressionable age. Today my guest on the show is the director of A CROOKED SOMEBODY Trevor White. To listen to our interview w/ Trevor click play on the embedded player below.

FUTURE '38 was an Audience Award winner at Slamdance this year and will be having its New York premiere on June 8th at the Art of Brooklyn Film Fest . Barbara Crampton on BLOOD BROTHERS, WE ARE STILL HERE and YOU'RE NEXT

Barbara achieved her greatest enduring cult popularity as sweet college coed "Megan Halsey" in Stuart Gordon's terrific Re-Animator (1985). She gave an excellent performance as the ambitious, but prim and repressed "Dr. Katherine McMichaels" in the equally fine From Beyond (1986). Crampton was quite engaging as the perky "Suzie Lynn" in the fun Chopping Mall (1986) and typically solid as the unhappy "Susan Reilly" in Castle Freak (1995) Barbara returned to the horror genre with 2011's YOU'RE NEXT and has turned out some impressive work in films like; LORDS OF SALEM, WE ARE STILL HERE and SUN CHOKE. In addition to acting Barbara has produced 2015's ROAD GAMES and BEYOND THE GATES that's slated to be released on December 9, 2016.  Critically-acclaimed festival favorite THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES, from writer-director Jose Prendes, will be distributed in the US by Uncork’d Entertainment under new title BLOOD BROTHERS .

Nancy Allen on the 40th Anniversary CARRIE

Forty years ago this November, one of the most innovative horror movies in Hollywood history hit theaters and set the box office on fire. Based on a novel, by a then up-and-coming writer named Stephen King, Carrie crystallized all the agonies of adolescence into the story of a shy, sheltered girl with telekinetic powers. Director Brian De Palma had been working in the independent field since the 1960s, but this film was his first box office hit and put him on the map as one of the major auteurs of the New Hollywood. De Palma filled the cast with many talented young actors making their first important features, including John Travolta, Nancy Allen, Amy Irving, William Katt, P.J. Soles, and Betty Buckley. For the leading role, he chose relative newcomer Sissy Spacek, who received her first Oscar nomination for the film, and to play her religious fanatic mother, De Palma cast Piper Laurie in her first film since The Hustler 15 years earlier. (She received her second Oscar n

When a struggling writer, HIV positive for 20+ years, accidentally deposits a $100 birthday check, he is dropped from his health plan for earning too much. In this new era of sort of universal care, can he take a helpless bureaucracy but also come up with $3000 a month to buy meds on his own? Welcome to the world's first AIDS comedy. Starring James Roday ("Psych"), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Robin Weigert ("Jessica Jones") and Khandi Alexander ("CSI: Miami"); written and directed by Tom Brown and produced by Chris Martin, Richard Lagravenese ( a name that I frequently mispronounce), and Jim Bloom, PUSHING DEAD will be screening at: Austin Film Festival   Scree
