96 SOULS review

2017 Directed by: Stanley Jacobs Starring: Grinnell Morris, Sid Veda and Paul Statman Dr. Jack Sutree (Grinnell Morris) is a biochemistry professor whose life is turned upside down when a lab accident gives him the ability to visualize his olfactory. If he looks at a flower, its fragrance is represented by a colorful cloud. Oddly though, when he looks at a person he is able to see their true motivations. He can see their innermost thoughts and secrets. It's a powerful and frustrating gift. With the assistance of a homeless musician named Bazemint, Jack hopes to unlock the mystery behind his powers and stop big pharma from using Jack's discovery for nefarious purposes. 96 SOULS fits in nicely with science fiction exploitation from the 50's and 60's. The science isn't very sciency and the fiction is super fictitious. The saving grace of most exploitation films is in the themes they explore. The reason a film like INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS transcends a sil

Original Remake: Moon and Oblivion

Being mostly unsatisfied with the weekly reboot and clones that Hollywood presents us every week we head to space to find our own in two older films: Duncan Jones' MOON from 2009 and Joseph Kosinski's OBLIVION from 2013. Can multiple Sam Rockwells take on the star power of Tom Cruise? Which A.I. do we want to take orders from, Kevin Spacey or Melissa Leo? And is there something to be appreciated in a copy? We certainly hope so on that last question as that's the premise of this podcast. Twitter: @originalremake Mike: @warmachinehorse Peter: @Podstalgic

War Machine vs. War Horse: To Steal from a Thief (The Silent Partner vs. Inside Man)

After producing three hundred episodes we decided to dig into our archives for a "lost" episode. Originally scheduled for August 2016 this show on TO STEAL FROM A THIEF is revived for two reasons: 1) we are incredibly lazy and 2) this Spanish film which was unable to get a theatrical release in the U.S. has now hit Netflix where it will presumably be ignored for more hate-watching of FULLER HOUSE. But we couldn't ignore it as it gives us a chance to look back at two great heist films set in banks and more specifically the content of safety deposit boxes in THE SILENT PARTNER and INSIDE MAN. And if that isn't enough Jodie Foster for you, we also are the only podcast (hopefully) to celebrate the one year anniversary of MONEY MONSTER! All of this and a bit less on the latest episode of War Machine vs. War Horse! LOST IN PARIS trailer

Filmed in Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon’s signature whimsical style, LOST IN PARIS stars the filmmakers as a small-town Canadian librarian and a strangely seductive, oddly egotistical vagabond. When Fiona’s (Gordon) orderly life is disrupted by a letter of distress from her 88-year-old Aunt Martha (delightfully portrayed by Academy Award®-nominee Emmanuelle Riva) who is living in Paris, Fiona hops on the first plane she can and arrives only to discover that Martha has disappeared. In an avalanche of spectacular disasters, she encounters Dom (Abel), the affable, but annoying tramp who just won’t leave her alone. Replete with the amazing antics and intricately choreographed slapstick that has come to define Abel and Gordon’s work, LOST IN PARIS is a wondrously fun and hectic tale of peculiar people finding love while lost in the City of Lights. LOST IN PARIS opens in NYC on June 16th.
