WAR MACHINE vs. WAR HORSE: Molly's Game (The Good German vs. Spider-Man 3)

On this episode we continue our games (GAME NIGHT was the previous episode if you skipped that one, you jerk) but this time with THE CHASTAIN. The greatest actor of our generation, Jessica Chastain, plays a woman who runs into the greatest asshole actor of our generation, Tobey Maguire (as played by Michael Cera), and to do so we celebrate (?) two other roles this actor played that exposed him for the bag egg that he is. In Steven Soderbergh's THE GOOD GERMAN, Maguire plays a soldier taking advantage of post-war chaos, and in Sam Raimi's franchise killing SPIDER-MAN he plays a "good guy" gone bad when his girlfriend breaks up with him and he starts wearing a evil, mind-altering space suit. Pretty standard stuff and to cover it we welcome back WEB BIST of the upcoming podcast TRILOGY TALK!

Outro song is "I Want Everything" by Luna (shoutout to The Great Joe North!)

Trainwreck

No contemporary filmmaker has chronicled the messy human experience with the eye and ear of a comedic cultural anthropologist like JUDD APATOW. Hits as varied as those he’s directed, like Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and those he’s produced, like Superbad and Bridesmaids, are all unified by their honest, unflinching, comic look at how complicated it is to grow up in the modern world. Apatow has also built a history of helping break distinctive new comedy voices into the mainstream, from Seth Rogen to Lena Dunham, among many others. Now, in his fifth feature film as a director, Apatow again brings a portrait of an unforgettable character, and a portrayal by a breakout new comedy star, together in a film written by and starring AMY SCHUMER (TV’s Inside Amy Schumer) as a woman who lives her life without apologies, even when maybe she should apologize.
