Original Remake: The Ring and Rings

On this episode we celebrate (?) the old fashioned format of video for the video release of RINGS which came out earlier this year... not that anyone noticed.  But guest Alice Bishop did!   And we discuss this reboot of the original remake THE RING from 2002, which carries on the tradition of this franchise always being slightly behind the times from a technology standpoint and better uses of the idea such as 2015's IT FOLLOWS. This episode may sound pretty negative but it includes one of my favorite live cover performance, so there's that.

Original Remake: The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951 and 2008

In this episode the original hosts of the show, Mike and Peter, are back just in time for an alien invasion involving Keanue Reeves and placenta armor. But before we get to Scott Derrickson's 2008 remake, a look back at the original Cold War era film from 1951 when Gort robots could bend their knees and could predict the future heroic quests of a man with a chainsaw for a hand. Then we predict a newer version of this film which involves The Chastain. Then again that's our  hope  for every future remake.

Original Remake: Captain America 1990 and 2011

We have our own civil war with two sides of Captain America. The first being the failed release of his 1990 adventure which ended up making its way direct to video in 1992. The much higher budgeted Marvel Cinematic Universe version in 2011 introduced Cap as The First Avenger and was the last solo MCU film before a little arthouse success in Joss Whedon's Avengers the following year. This one isn't much of a debate, so we bring in Master Sergeant Bill Paxton as a true threat to the guy wielding the shield.

Original Remake: Freaky Friday 1976 and 2003

On this episode hosts Peter and Mike combine our last two holiday weekends of Mother's Day and Friday the 13th by watching two versions of the mother/daughter body switch comedy FREAKY FRIDAY. Is this the only chance for Lindsay Lohan to better Jodie Foster in an acting performance? Does Jamie Lee Curtis' 2003 rendition of "...Baby One More Time" have us traveling back to the 1976 version as quickly as we can? Find out the answer to these very important questions in our latest episode!

Original Remake: Jungle Book 1967 and 2016

In this episode host Peter is joined by guest Mason of ReelDudeReviews.com to compare the animated JUNGLE BOOK with the new live-action version directed by Jon Favreau. They discuss some of the differences in characters and tell you which version they recommend.

Original Remake: School for Scoundrels 1960 and 2006

On this episode hosts Mike and Peter decide to enroll in the SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS instead of seeing Melissa McCarthy's THE BOSS. We discuss how the scoundrel curriculum has changed from the 1960 original to the 2006 remake taught by Billy Bob Thornton. And being the great students that we are, we make some recommendations for staffing in a future version of this story.

Original Remake: The Bad News Bears 1976 and 2005

On this episode we celebrate the return of baseball (mainly just Michael) by watching the 1976 and 2005 versions of THE BAD NEWS BEARS. We admire the hard living of Walter Matthau, the romantic peak of Billy Bob Thornton, and the cinematic coaching abilities of Mark Wahlberg in PAIN & GAIN. Join us as we take your earbuds back to a time when Freddy Krueger ruled the diamond as we wait for Richard Linklater's newest baseball movie EVERYBODY WANTS SOME to make its way to our local theater.

Original Remake: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman v Superman

On this episode, featured player and our resident horror expert Derek Stewart returns to relive the horror of watching BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. We discuss the film's attempt to present a version of Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS on the big screen, which was far more successfully done with a straightforward animated adaptation for the home video market.
