The Venture Bros: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart - Review

2023

Director: Jackson Publick

Starring: Doc Hammer, James Urbaniak, Michael Sinterniklaas, Chris McCulloch, Clancy Brown, and JK Simmons

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is an absolute triumph that brilliantly continues the story of the beloved animated series. As a long-time fan, I couldn't be more thrilled with this new movie, which picks up right where season 7 finale left off. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has delivered a truly special piece of animation that had me from start to finish.

While the plot for the film is about what you'd expect from a direct to home video feature based on an animated series, there is something in the way all the pieces come together that is utterly compelling, making it impossible to look away. The story is well-crafted and the return of an imposing evil from the past adds a layer of depth and intensity that fans will appreciate.

The voice talents in The Venture Bros. have always been top-notch, and Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is no exception. James Urbaniak, as Dr. Venture, brings his A-game, and Patrickbutm Warburton shines as the beloved Brock Samson. Michael Sinterniklaas, Chris McCulloch, and Doc Hammer reprise their roles flawlessly, breathing life into their iconic characters once again.

The supporting cast is equally outstanding, with performances from Nina Arianda as Mantilla, Clancy Brown as Daisy and Red Death, and JK Simmons as Ben. The star-studded ensemble truly elevates the film and adds layers of charm and complexity to the characters they portray. For as absurd as the film is, and believe me its fucking absurd, there is a bizzare emotional honesty on display that many dramatic endevours fail to achieve.

The animation style, a signature of the series, remains as wonderful as ever, showcasing the creativity and attention to detail that makes The Venture Bros. so visually unique. The action sequences are fun as hell, the humor is spot-on, and the emotional moments are surpirsingly effective, creating a well-rounded experience that caters to both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. My wife had never seen VB and she had a great time with this one.

Kudos to series creators Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick for their exceptional writing and to Jackson Publick for his stellar direction. They have crafted a movie that perfectly encapsulates everything we love about The Venture Bros., while also pushing the boundaries of the story and characters we thought we knew.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is a true testament to the legacy of the original series, and it's a must-watch for anyone who has followed the adventures of the Venture family and their eccentric allies and foes. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has delivered a cinematic gem that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on fans of all ages. I, for one, cannot wait to watch it again.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of a Baboon Heart - will be available to own on Digital on July 21, and Blu-ray on July 25.

Explaining the Ending of MULHOLLAND DRIVE

David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive remains one of the most haunting and enigmatic films ever made. It operates like a riddle that refuses to be solved, luring the viewer into a world where time, memory, and identity dissolve into one another. What begins as a mysterious, almost whimsical Hollywood fairy tale gradually transforms into a psychological nightmare. By the end, it’s clear that what we’ve been watching is not a mystery to be unraveled but an emotional landscape, the mind of a woman caught between fantasy and despair. The film tells the story of two women, Betty Elms and Rita, whose lives intertwine after Rita survives a car crash and loses her memory. Betty, a bright and optimistic aspiring actress freshly arrived in Los Angeles, takes her in. Together, they embark on an investigation into Rita’s identity, which unfolds like a noir detective story bathed in dreamlike light. Everything about this world feels heightened: Betty’s charm, the coincidence of events, and the ease with w...

Explaining the Ending of No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men is a tense, spare, and philosophical thriller that upends traditional narrative expectations. While it contains the elements of a crime drama—drug deals, hitmen, shootouts—it refuses to follow a conventional path. By the time the film ends, the central conflict seems unresolved, the villain walks away, and the protagonist we’ve been following disappears offscreen. To understand the film’s ending, one must look beyond plot and consider its themes: fate, violence, moral decay, and the erosion of order in the modern world. The Narrative Setup The story begins with Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), a Vietnam veteran who discovers a drug deal gone wrong in the Texas desert and makes off with $2 million in cash. Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), a remorseless hitman, is sent to retrieve the money. Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), a weary and introspective lawman, tries to make sense of the violence unfolding around him. At first glance, the film appears to set up a c...
