Nia DaCosta Brings a Bold New Vision to Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler

Acclaimed filmmaker Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) is set to deliver a daring reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play Hedda Gabler. Simply titled Hedda, the film stars Tessa Thompson in the title role, leading a powerhouse ensemble that includes Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss. Produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Gabrielle Nadig, DaCosta, and Thompson, the film reframes Ibsen’s timeless story for a contemporary audience. Hedda centers on a woman caught between the ghosts of her past and the stifling constraints of her present. Over the course of one fateful night, suppressed emotions, dangerous desires, and simmering tensions erupt—unraveling lives in a storm of manipulation, passion, and betrayal. With DaCosta both writing and directing, the project promises a sharp, visceral take on one of theater’s most enduring explorations of love, power, and freedom. Hedda opens in select theaters on October 22 and will be available globally on Prime Video...
