Ep. 181 of War Machine vs. War Horse: The Martian (Apollo 13 vs. Gravity)

On this episode we attempt to survive in space with Hadas from the Common Room podcast, and thankfully we have a couple of movies on the subject to entertain us. In APOLLO 13, Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Bacon rely on each other and the crew back on Earth to put together a plan to return home after a failed trip to the moon, whereas in GRAVITY it’s Sandra Bullock in a solo quest to return to our home planet, although George Clooney does provide a brief pep talk. But before all that grim business, we express a little bit of joy with Jess and Non of the Joy Sandwich podcast, as we admire the humor with which Matt Damon approaches being stranded on Mars in new release THE MARTIAN.

Episode 73 of Pop Culture Case Study - The Departed and Honesty

In this episode, Dave is joined by Non and Jess from the Joy Sandwich Podcast.  We talk about Oscar winner, The Departed.  To focus the discussion Dave discusses the ideas of honesty and dishonesty, which is not as black and white as you might think.   Britt joins us for Fangirl Fixation to talk about a movie that actually surprises her for once! Ep. 175 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Black Mass (The Friends of Eddie Coyle vs. The Departed)

On this episode we take a trip to Boston with David from That Moment In on a mission to uncover some rats. Martin Scorsese's Best Picture winning THE DEPARTED has Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio as a compromised cop and an undercover agent who are looking to reveal the other in a deadly game of cat and mouse. And in THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE we have movie god Robert Mitchum trades criminal contacts like baseball cards in an attempt to save himself, unaware of others playing the same game with his fate. These two cinematic crime classics do battle after new release BLACK MASS attempts to join their ranks.

Episode 61 of Hydrate Level Four - School Ties

Peter and Phoenix go back to 1992 and review a movie with a bunch of young stars! Brendan Fraser, who plays David Green, stars in School Ties about a high school football player who gets a scholarship to a preparatory school where he has to hide that he is Jewish.

Ep. 168 of War Machine vs. War Horse: American Ultra (The Long Kiss Goodnight vs. The Bourne Identity)

On this episode we are joined by guest Dan Lizette from The Podcast Digest, a show where Dan recommends and interviews producers of great podcast content, so we can not recommend this podcast enough to both listeners and podcasters alike. And since Dan attempts to wake up listeners to podcasts they may not be aware of, we will be discussing THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT vs. THE BOURNE IDENTITY in which Geena Davis and Matt Damon awaken to skills and past lives that lead to knife fights and general good times. BUT FIRST... we discuss the new film that is really just an excuse to get Dan and Jason Bourne on the show, with the new release AMERICAN ULTRA.

Episode 67 of Pop Culture Case Study - Rounders and Gambling Addiction

In this episode, Dave finally introduces Britt to the glory of Rounders and Teddy KGB.  As a bonus, some of Dave's podcasting friends give their best Teddy KGB impression!  After this fun, Dave discusses how his past and present have affected his viewing of the gambling tale of Rounders! Lets look at Ridley Scotts latest The Martian

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

Episode 01 of Original Remake: Infernal Affairs and The Departed

On the very first episode of the Original Remake podcast we discuss the origins of this show which has something to do with our first double feature selection of INFERNAL AFFAIRS and THE DEPARTED. Ultimately we seek answers to three questions: Does the remake do justice to the original? And if you just watch the remake do you get a good sense of why the original was successful or not successful and thus remade? But most of all which movie to watch, the original or the remake? Along the way we talk about the distinct cultural difference of moving the story from INFERNAL AFFAIRS to Boston, the advantage or disadvantage of having a big star like Jack Nicholson playing the big heavy, and the humorous whirlwind of vulgarity that is Dignam in THE DEPARTED.
