ORIGINAL REMAKE: Star Trek 1979 and 2009

On this episode we journey to a place that Hollywood has been many times before... the STAR TREK universe. In particular we look at the first feature film for this franchise with 1979's STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and the J.J. Abrams reboot in 2009. Which jerk Captain Kirk do you prefer? The back from retirement William Shatner version from the 1979 film OR the hothead amateur played by Chris Pine in in the 2009 reboot? Find out what two redshirts think here and at the links below: Support what we do with bonus content and early episodes on  Patreon Listen  iTunes / Podbean Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake Email:  originalremakepod@gmail.com Hosts:  @Podstalgic  and  @warmachinehorse

ORIGINAL REMAKE: Perfect Blue and Black Swan

Inspired by the release of R E D S P A R R O W , we decide to review another movie involving a bird of color, Darren Aronofsky's B L A C K S W A N which was inspired by Satoshi Kon's P E R F E C T B L U E . Despite being one of our shorter episodes, we still manage to bring up ballet, overbearing mother's that can bake and hentai. ORIGINAL REMAKE: The Jackie Robinson Story and 42

To promote the new indie film BLACK PANTHER we go back to a 2013 film starring Chadwick Boseman, 42. In this film, Mr. Boseman has the challenge of not only playing Jackie Robinson who broke the color barrier in basseball, but also to try and best Mr. Robinson who played himself in THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY. This is a first in ORIGINAL REMAKE, although it will not be the first time we do a little sports talk radio. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on if you are a baseball fan, one host has to break these movies down in basketball terms and the other still laments Kevin Durant not making his way to the Celtics. And with that we just lost all of our movie podcast listeners... did we mention that this in celebration of a little movie called BLACK PANTHER? ORIGINAL REMAKE: Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey

For Valentine's Day, we decide to give the listeners something sexy. And what sexier than a teen vampire and a rich playboy who's handy with the whips! We talk about TWILIGHT and FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, the fan faction that it's inspired by. ORIGINAL REMAKE: No Strings Attached and Friends with Benefits

On this episode we make no firm commitment to either of 2011’s films about sleeping around as we enjoy both NO STRINGS ATTACHED and FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS. We of course try to create the perfect couple out of the two on-screen   pairs of Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher going up against Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, but also the great supporting characters played by Lake Bell, Greta Gerwig, and Mindy Kaling. Along the way we prove to only be suitable discussing such matters about movie characters as we relay a couple of times when a “friends with benefits” philosophy has backfired on us in real life.  So don’t worry about being trapped in a long-term relationship with us… though we would appreciate a subscribe and any follows from the links down below! ORIGINAL REMAKE: La Piscine and A Bigger Splash

Start your new year with A BIGGER SPLASH, or at least our episode on this remake of LA PISCINE, as we travel abroad to speak with The Greatest Australian Podcaster of All Time:  Andrew  from  AB Film Review . In this episode you will hear many tips to live by for the coming year, such as the relaxation lifestyle of the dead, the resurgence of back porn, and an appreciation for dance and Ralph Fiennes penis! All of this and only slightly more in this perfect episode for early January, a podcast on films that take place around swimming pools. ORIGINAL REMAKE: The Bishop's Wife and The Preacher's Wife

For Christmas we treat ourselves and our listeners to a debate on the charms of the very handsome CARY GRANT and DENZEL WASHINGTON as these two silver screen angels battle it out in our episode on THE BISHOP'S WIFE and THE PREACHER'S WIFE! Happy holidays!   Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake Email:  originalremakepod@gmail.com Hosts:  @Podstalgic  and  @warmachinehorse

ORIGINAL REMAKE: Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas

We bring on the world's biggest fan of the Bad Moms Cinematic Universe,  Jairo  of the  True Bromance Film Podcast , to see if one of his favorite films of 2016 is a rare comedy sequel that works. Along the way we disagree on what's considered a Christmas movie classic, the merits of sequels leading to an eventual ROCKY IV, and what exactly the age demographic should be for the hypothetical third installment in the BAD MOMS series. Like Hollywood, we get a jump on the holiday bitterness with our episode on A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS, and you should too! ORIGINAL REMAKE: Psycho 1960 and 1998

For our Halloween episode this year we celebrate... Mother's Day? The ultimate love letter to all the moms out there is Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO from 1960 and to prove that love we are doubling down by revisiting the not-so-loved Gus Vant Sant remake of PSYCHO from 1998. This newer version being an attempt at a shot for shot remake, we discuss the style, casting choices, and strangely how dated the newer film seems compared to the 1960 version. Stick around for our new casting choices for what we can assume will never be with a third version of this film... so this is exclusive to this very podcast. You're welcome!   Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake Email:  originalremakepod@gmail.com Hosts:  @Podstalgic  and  @warmachinehorse

ORIGINAL REMAKE: Serial Mom and A History of Violence

In this episode, we discuss dangerous parents and compare Kathleen Turner in SERIAL MOM and Viggo Mortensen in A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. We then turn our focus to hair, age and some questionable sex scenes from both movies. ORIGINAL REMAKE: Wonder Woman and Professor Marston and the Wonder Women

Two weeks in a row we have  Dave Hart  of  Pop Culture Case Study  to help us figure out our fixation with WONDER WOMAN, other than the fact that it's a very likable movie. We compare that summer crowd pleaser to the crowded love story in the new release PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN. This discussion focuses on the origin of this iconic superhero character and how that has shifted over time, but more importantly if it shifts our opinion of the character as seen in the Patty Jenkins film. Also because we can't behave ourselves, we pitch a sequel with Chris Pine flying the invisible jet in a very special way. ORIGINAL REMAKE: Blade Runner 2019 and 2049

For our episode celebrating the release of BLADE RUNNER 2049, the sequel to the classic Ridley Scott sci-fi film, we debate the big questions. Not if Deckard is a replicant, but just who thought that this film was going to be a big box office success? Certainly not our guest,  Dave  of  POP CULTURE CASE STUDY , who gives one super fan's response to this universe's continuation. Meanwhile our host  Mike  continues to lament not the darkness of this particular sci-fi world, but the fact that this visual feast of a movie looks much better on his iPhone than his local theater. ORIGINAL REMAKE: Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow

On this episode we reset, watch GROUNDHOG DAY, EDGE OF TOMORROW, and then do it all again for your listening pleasure. In a battle between two Ritas, Andie Macdowell fights Emily Blunt for the hearts of hosts Peter and Mike as they look at films that share the similar concept of reliving one day over and over again. Do we choose the comedic and ice sculpting skills of Bill Murray? Or maybe the rare sighting of a cowardly Tom Cruise running away from a fight is more our speed? The only way to find out is to listen to this episode. But all we ask is ONE listen. That's more than enough. ORIGINAL REMAKE: The Shining 1980 and 1997

On this episode we celebrate the release of IT by looking at another Stephen King adaptation... only this time the original was a theatrical film and the remake a television mini-series.  Margo D.  of  the BOOK VS. MOVIE podcast  joins ORIGINAL REMAKE as our official Stephen King expert as we relive the horror of early television CGI, a kinder, sweeter father haunted by personal demons at the Overlook, and a sitcom star doing his best (worst?) Jack Nicholson. Join us as we declare a winner between Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King as we look at both versions of THE SHINING! Original Remake: Alien and Prometheus

We are joined by the crew of the  You Don't Know Ish  podcast for a trip through space and time to compare Ridley Scott's much loved classic ALIEN and his not so loved return in PROMETHEUS. Along the way we discover a shared love for Michael Fassbender's prankster robot, why Charlize Theron would not be a top fantasy football draft pick, and the true nature of horror in the shape of a penis. Enjoy! Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake Email:  originalremakepod@gmail.com Hosts:  @Podstalgic  and  @warmachinehorse

Original Remake: The Beguiled 1971 and 2017

On this episode film critic  Alice Bishop  joins us at the lovely Civil War era bed and breakfast as found in the 1971 and 2017 film version of THE BEGUILED. We discuss the differences in seeing Colin Farrell and action and western icon Clint Eastwood in a state of vulnerability and how one increases the horror of the situation in these similarly plotted films. The accusation of whitewashing in the new Sofia Coppola version is discussed as is the different interests between her and the original's director Don Siegel. All in all its a lovely time where we exchange mushroom recipes. ALSO: Our friendship survives a minor disagreement on the merits of Blake Lively in shark flicks. Original Remake: Drive and Baby Driver

On this episode we turn to a baby podcaster himself,  Dan  of  Get Reel Movies , a film site that caters to millenials. We ask him his take on Edgar Wright's version of the stoic getaway driver in BABY DRIVER, under the assumption that the hosts of this show are just too damn old to get it. However a love for Ryan Gosling and the film DRIVE knows no age barriers as we rave about that film and then get into the meat of modern online film criticism: which driver has the best playlist for conducting cool chase sequences? All of this and we find out that Canadians aren't that nice in the latest episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE. ALSO: Be sure to check out  Dan's interview with DRIVE screenwriter Hossein Amini on his podcast GET REEL MOVIES .  Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake Email:  originalremakepod@gmail.com Hosts:  @Podstalgic  and  @warmachinehorse

Original Remake: Top Gun and Days of Thunder

For this much Cruise on this episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE, we have to bring on a fellow Tom Cruise enthusiast and a man who understands the need for speed in  Jason Michael  from  ATLANTIC SCREEN CONNECTION . We discuss the glory days of star power without the need for a franchise, even if TOP GUN and DAYS OF THUNDER share so many similarities they could almost be about the same character. Of course the music, mentors, and ridiculously named rivals change. So join us as we decide if we like our Cruise delivered by ground or air! Twitter / Instagram : @originalremake

Original Remake: Moon and Oblivion

Being mostly unsatisfied with the weekly reboot and clones that Hollywood presents us every week we head to space to find our own in two older films: Duncan Jones' MOON from 2009 and Joseph Kosinski's OBLIVION from 2013. Can multiple Sam Rockwells take on the star power of Tom Cruise? Which A.I. do we want to take orders from, Kevin Spacey or Melissa Leo? And is there something to be appreciated in a copy? We certainly hope so on that last question as that's the premise of this podcast. Twitter: @originalremake Mike: @warmachinehorse Peter: @Podstalgic

Original Remake: The Ring and Rings

On this episode we celebrate (?) the old fashioned format of video for the video release of RINGS which came out earlier this year... not that anyone noticed.  But guest Alice Bishop did!   And we discuss this reboot of the original remake THE RING from 2002, which carries on the tradition of this franchise always being slightly behind the times from a technology standpoint and better uses of the idea such as 2015's IT FOLLOWS. This episode may sound pretty negative but it includes one of my favorite live cover performance, so there's that.
