Shorty, Cindy, and 4K Grain: Scary Movie 4K Steelbook Review

If you were old enough to be sneaking into movie theaters during the summer of 2001, you probably remember just how massive Scary Movie was. It arrived right at the tail end of the late-90s teen slasher revival, taking a massive, crude, sledgehammer swing at Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and pretty much every pop culture staple of that specific turn-of-the-millennium window. Looking back at it now, it's wild to think about how much money this thing made on a modest budget. It practically birthed a whole subgenre of spoof movies, most of which got progressively worse over the next decade. But the original Wayans brothers effort still holds a special, trashy place in the hearts of anyone who grew up on VHS tapes and early DVD releases. Naturally, Paramount decided it was time to give this comedy classic the premium 4K Ultra HD Steelbook treatment. The big question is whether a film full of bodily fluid jokes and slapstick gags actually benefits from a native 4K transfer, o...

Scary Movie (2026) 4K Review: A Messy, Loud, Surprisingly Crisp Hit of Nostalgia

So, Scary Movie is back. Not that it was ever really gone, just quietly buried under a heap of cheap direct-to-video sequels and PG-13 rated cash grabs. This latest incarnation is properly a theatrical release, however, and it sent the Wayans brothers back to their old stomping grounds. Depending on how nostalgic you are for the crude, lewd, and generally ill-advised late ’90s/early 2000s era comedies, this news either thrilled you or made you groan in existential dread. Either way, this particular iteration of Scary Movie has already seen its theatrical run and has since become available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. I have to admit that hearing about this reboot made me skeptical. The horror parody subgenre has long since dried up and blown away with the tailwinds of the Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans era. The very concept of a “modern” horror movie is now one of those painfully self-indulgent pop culture touchstones which makes anyone who grew up during its peak cringe with every new en...

The Original Gang Is Back: Scary Movie Hits Home Media This September

Hold onto your slashers, because the original Scary Movie gang is coming back. Paramount Pictures just announced that the brand-new Scary Movie entry is hitting 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 22nd, and it is bringing the core team along for the ride. It has been twenty-six years since the original spoof turned horror tropes on their head, and now Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, and Ray are getting dragged right back into the mess. Apparently, a fresh masked killer is on the loose, completely oblivious to the fact that this crew should probably be retired by now. What makes this actually exciting is the return of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall. Getting all four of them back in the same room feels like a tiny miracle, given how the franchise fragmented over the years. They are joining forces with director Michael Tiddes and a massive stacked cast that includes Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Damon Wayans Jr., a...
