Second Class Cinema Episode 81: Geteven (Road to Revenge) (1993)

We’re on a road… A road… to REVENGE! Our flick this week was a recommendation from our friends over at Bad Movie Sunday (which Bristol Bad Film Club was kind enough to give us access to), and we cannot thank them enough for it. We were joined by our friend (and first-time guest), Gray, as we viewed and discussed the masterpiece that is Road to Revenge (1993) aka GETEVEN aka Karate Cowboy aka Satanic Panic. Just kidding about those last two… Or are we? Road to Revenge follows disgraced former police officer (and current limo driver), Rick Bode, as he attempts to take down a Satanic cult- which happens to be headed by his former partner, Normad. Aided by his girlfriend, Cindy (a former cult member), his perpetually drunk best friend, Huck, and a Native American mannequin, Rick sets off to get even. Armed with nothing more than some leather pants and a song, John De Hart mystifyingly manages to make this vanity project completely entertaining (and bizarrely endearing). Listen up as

Second Class Cinema Episode 80: Housebound (2014)

Hellooooo Citizens!  We're officially off that hellish ride through space, and onto bigger and better things. It was Brittany's turn to pick the flick this week, and feeling as though we deserved to treat ourselves, she selected 2014’s Housebound- a thriller/comedy straight out of New Zealand. Having heard nothing but great things about this movie, it felt a little indulgent… But hey, treat yo’self, amiright?  Housebound follows Kylie, a young delinquent who is sentenced to house arrest under her mother’s care after being arrested for breaking into an ATM. While stuck with her mother and stepfather, Kylie learns some disturbing things about their family home. Like how a teenage girl was murdered there decades ago… Back when their house was used as a mental institution. NBD. As Kylie becomes obsessed with solving the murder, things around the house just get weirder and weirder. Can she solve it before her and her mother become the killer’s next victims?  Listen up! Second Class Cinema Episode 78: Hellraiser IV: Bloodline (1996)

Welcome to a special Saturday edition of Second Class Cinema! This whole "In Space Month" this is a little harder than initially anticipated. That being said this week we watched Hellraiser IV: Bloodline. Even with Adam Scott having a role in this movie and the prospect of Pinhead being shot with orange lasers couldn't truly salvage the movie. Our friend and b-movie professional Fallon was kind enough to come on and watch this one with us and then we blamed her for it because we're all good buddies here. This one prompted an interesting but unanimous rating. Listen Up! Download this episode (right click and save) Special Guest: Fallon Taffy Twins

Second Class Cinema Episode 76: Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997)

In Space Month is FINALLY here on Second Class Cinema! But you all should have heard this in our April 1st episode. Sorry about that. We kick it off with Brittany's pick, Leprechaun 4: In Space! The rules of In Space Month are easy, we have to pick a movie that takes it franchise in to outer space. We were surprised to find out how little this actually happened but it happened enough for us to notice, so that's a problem. Special Guest Taryn came on to discuss this movie with us. Listen up! Second Class Cinema Episode 73: Breathing Fire (1991)

It was Tom's pick this week and he used a bit of outside influence for his selection. The movie is 1991's martial art, action, comedy Breathing Fire. Tom was merely a bystander on twitter when the The Bristol Bad Film Club ( @TheOtherBBFC ) tagged him in an image that Crap Film Clun ( @CrapFilmClub ) posted. About 5 minutes later Tom was sitting anxiously at his doorstep waiting for his newest eBay purchase to arrive. After it's arrival, and with little to no expectation of the movie, it was put it on the television and allowed it into the hearts of Second Class Cinema. Tyler came on to watch this movie with us and as he states in this episode, this movie changed his life.   iTunes Stitcher TuneIn secondclasscinema.com Listen up!

Second Class Cinema Episode 72: Megaforce (1982)

This week on Second Class Cinema we watched a film recommended to us by the fine folks over at Bad Movie Sunday! We had the pleasure(?) of viewing 1982’s “superhero”/mercenary oddity, Megaforce. When the peaceful country of Sardun finds itself at odds with their neighboring country of Gamibia, they have no way to defend themselves from an impending invasion- or even war. Enter Megaforce: a secret mercenary company comprised of soldiers from all over the world, headed by Commander Ace Hunter (a flamboyant, gold-spandex-clad Barry Bostwick). Sardun sends one of their military leaders, Major Zara, to request Megaforce’s assistance in crushing their opponent, Gamibia- which just happens to be led by Hunter’s old military pal, Duke Gurerra. The stakes are… Surprisingly low… as Megaforce uses holographs, spandex, and flying motorcycles to bring Gamibia to heel. We had some fun watching this one, although, it was difficult to figure out who the target audience for this film was. Liste

Second Class Cinema Episode 69: Never Too Young To Die (1986)

Hello friends! This week on SCC we are celebrating the birthday of our very own Erik. What a joy. And what better way to celebrate a birthday, than to watch a movie in which Gene Simmons stars as a hermaphroditic, lounge-singing super villain! It was Erik’s pick this week, and he picked the 1986 action flick, Never Too Young To Die, starring John Stamos, Gene Simmons, and Vanity (RIP, as of today, oddly enough). This flick follows Lance Stargrove as he transitions from meek college gymnast, to full-blown action hero in just over 90 minutes. Lance’s father is killed while on a super secret mission to stop the ruthless Ragnar from poisoning the cities water supply, leaving Lance no choice but to complete the mission. With the help of fellow agent, Danja - and the occasional wacky gagdet from his college friend, Cliff- Lance sets off to stop Ragnar once and for all. This movie is a veritable trove of so many things you never knew you needed. John Stamos cocking a shotgun? Check.

Second Class Cinema BONUS EPISODE: Interview with actor Mathew Karedas (The Samurai Cop)

Listen up! Greetings, citizens! We are super excited today because boy, do we have a bonus episode for you... As most of you know, Samurai Cop is a much beloved and revered flick here at Second Class Cinema. We covered it in one of our earliest episodes over a year ago, and just recently we viewed and discussed the much-anticipated sequel, Samurai Cop II: Deadly Vengeance. Deadly Vengeance was total shlock-madness that left us with a ton of questions. So I guess we were pretty lucky that Samurai Cop himself, Mathew Karedas, offered to chat with us and answer our many questions about this crazy piece of cinema. Matt took us on a complete tour of making this movie- discussing everything from how he came to be Samurai Cop in Amir Shirvan’s original picture, to rising from the dead, to what it was like working with Tommy Wiseau. His hilarious anecdotes on the funding/filming/release (and beyond) has given us so much insight into the blood, sweat and pure insanity that made

Second Class Cinema Episode 67: The Final Girls (2015)

Ahoy, Citizens! It was Brit's turn to pick the flick this week, so of course we ended up watching a horror-comedy... Only this time, it was a film from 2015, and not the late 80's. Baby steps. Taryn joined us once again this week to view and discuss the 2015 meta/slasher/comedy, The Final Girls. 3 years after her mother's untimely death, Max Cartright agrees to attend a screening of her mom's most famous movie- the 80's slasher flick, Camp Bloodbath. After a series of unlikely events, Max and a group of friends find themselves IN the movie. They have to learn the rules of the film, save Max's mom, and live til morning if they want to escape Camp Bloodbath. But who will be the Final Girl? Tom put it best when he described this film as "an a-movie disguised as a b-movie". In this episode we discuss paying homage to horror classics, the mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the film, and the insanely enjoyable casting choices.   Click her

Second Class Cinema Episode 66: Deadliest Prey (2013)

At SCC this week, we finally got to watch a film we have been eager to see for a while... It was Erik's pick, and he chose 2013's Deadliest Prey- the follow-up to 1987's cult-classic action flick, Deadly Prey. In the original film, we follow Mike Danton- Vietnam vet, and all-around American badass- as he's kidnapped and forced to be the "prey" for a group of ruthless mercenaries in training, led by madman Colonel Hogan. To make a totally awesome long story short: they kill Danton's wife, he destroys them all, Hogan goes to prison, the end. Or is it? This movie picks up 25 years later, as Hogan is about to be released from prison. Suffice to say, he has not been reformed. In fact, he's spent the last 25 years plotting the ultimate revenge on Danton- kidnapping him, and once again plunging him into a deadly hunting game... Because apparently Hogan didn't learn his lesson the first time? Will Mike outsmart his hunters once again, and be able to

Second Class Cinema Episode 65: Guns (1990)

This week we had the pleasure of viewing one of Tom's picks here at SCC, and that pick was the 1990 Andy Sedaris action flick, Guns. We've watched a few Sedaris movies before this, and though they all contain the 3 B's (boobs, babes and beaches, duh.), this was the best one we've seen thus far. When a ruthless gun-runner, Juan Degas, puts a hit out on a member of a secret government agency, all hell breaks loose. Degas stages a murder in Las Vegas to keep the agents busy while he traffics shipments of guns through Hawaii. Will the Agency (yup, that's what it's called) be able to save all their hostages and stop them before the deal is done? This movie is a real doozy. It took us a bit to get a grip on what exactly was happening, and who was doing what in this... but once you get there, it's a fun time. We discuss the mechanics of sex on motorcycles, soft corn flicks, and why teased 80's hair is so orgasmic. Listen up, gentlefolk!   Click here fo

Second Class Cinema Episode 63: Dangerous Men (2005)

Happy New Year! It was a great year here at Second Class Cinema. We've watched a lot of movies- some great, some not so much- had a ton of great guests on, and more importantly- we have had a blast doing it. Our podbean reached 10,000 plays this week, and it means a lot to us that anyone at all enjoys listening to us be morons. So, thanks for that! For our first episode of the new year, we were joined by our friend Aaron in viewing the newest Drafthouse flick, Dangerous Men. After being kidnapped by her fiance's murderer- and her would-be rapist- Mina exacts revenge and goes on a killing spree to rid LA of all of it's scummy and dangerous men. Unfortunately for her, a detective- who also happens to be her fiance's brother- is hot on her heels as he attempts to solve the string of murders and destroy the biker gang responsible for his brothers death. The synopsis above is much, much more succinct than the actual film itself. In this episode we discuss the moti

Second Class Cinema Episode 62: Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2015)

Ahoy, Citizens! This week on SCC, we had our BFF Tyler on, yet again, to help us dissect our newest Second Class flick. And it should come as no surprise, that as a group, we decided to watch the highly anticipated (for us, anyway), Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance! This movie picks up right where Samurai Cop ends, but then launches us 25 years into the present day where there is a deadly turf war going on between two Samurai gangs, because obviously. Unable to solve a string of recent killings, Frank Washington sets out to find his old partner, Joe Marshall (the Samurai Cop), in hopes that Joe can help him solve the crimes. Throw in some bizarrely futuristic settings, inexplicable music selections, and Tommy Wiseau, and apparently you've got a movie. If you are a fan of the original Samurai Cop, you're going to want to give this episode a listen. Tyler joined us for his first viewing of Samurai Cop earlier that day, so we were all brushed up and ready to compare. We dis

Second Class Cinema: Never Say Never Again (1983)

Merry Christmas, Citizens! We're not officially there yet, but it's so close we can taste it. And it tastes like a martini- shaken, not stirred. Once again joined by our good pal, Tyler, we prepared to watch 1983's bastard Bond film, Never Say Never Again. Tyler and Erik have seen ALL Bond films, while Tom and Brittany have seen NONE... It made for a interesting discussion. We won't bore you with plot points from this flick, as I'm sure you can guess that Bond is tasked with saving the civilized world from the clutches of a mad man. With, of course, plenty of booze and babes to distract him in the process. We dissect this film and get down to the nitty-gritty, as we discuss the sexiest Bond, the acidity level of James Bond's urine, accidental animal death, and of course... what everyone wants to know, the number of sexual conquests Sean Connery has had in his life. Don't forget to visit Second Class Cinema for more content! Listen up! Life or d

Second Class Cinema Episode 60: Santa With Muscles (1996)

It's the most wonderful time of the year! That is to say, Christmas is upon us. That magical time when we gather round the television, and try to view the weirdest and most absurd Christmas b-movies out there. It was Tom's pick this week, and we're sure you will exhibit zero surprise to hear that he picked the 1996 Hulk Hogan flick, Santa with Muscles. This movie follows an obnoxiously childish millionaire, Blake Thorn (Hogan, obviously), who, after hitting his head and getting amnesia, is convinced that he is the one and only Santa Claus. Luckily, this also makes him forget his stingy, self-interested ways and he offers his help to save the local orphanage from the tyrannical Ebner Frost. Frost has been buying up all the property in town for insidious reasons and the orphanage is the most important of them all. Will Blake be able harness the power of Hulkamania to stop Frost and save Christmas? You better believe it, BROTHER. Listen up as we discuss the decidedly N

Second Class Cinema Episode 59: She (1982)

Watch this not so bad fight scene  Hello Citizens! We watched a submission film this week, and boy, was it weird. Erik's sister Melissa recommended a bunch of awesomely terrible looking flicks to us, and while we wish we could say that the cream always rises to the top... We just aren't goddamn liars.  We ended up picking the 1982 sci-fi/fantasy film, She. When Tom and Dick's sister Shandra is kidnapped by the evil, football-pad-wearing Norks, they set off on an adventure to save her. On the way, they become entangled with She, the leader of a local tribe of Amazon-eque female warriors. She begrudgingly decides to help them rescue their sister. Along the way they encounter everything you could possibly imagine- from radioactive mutants and toga-wearing werepires, to a telepathic god named Godan. Will they make it past their many obstacles and rescue Shandra before it's too late? Typically we have a lot of complaints about films that beat their viewers to death

Second Class Cinema Episode 58: Deathgasm (2015)

Check out the trailer here: It was Brittany's turn to pick this week, and we're sure it will surprise everyone to know that she picked a horror-comedy.   We watched the 2015 New Zealand gore-fest, Deathgasm. After being forced to live with his overly religious aunt and uncle, Brodie tries to make the best of things by making a few new friends and starting a metal band. He even attracts the attention of his classmate, Medina, who is a total babe. Unfortunately for him, it's not enough to make him feel at  home. He gets beat up by his cousin for talking to Medina, his family treats him like the spawn of Satan, and his classmates think he's a freak. So when he and his best friend Zakk discover an ancient text- a song to summon demons, known as the Black Hymn- it's not a surprise that they think it's metal as fuck and decide to play it. Bloody chaos ensues, and now it's up to Dethgasm (and Medina) to stop the demons and prevent the demon Aeloth from taking

Second Class Cinema Episode 57: Revenge of the Ninja (1983)

It was Erik's turn to pick the flick this week- naturally we ended up watching a ninja movie... We were in for a surprise, however, because 1983's Revenge of the Ninja ended up being the best ninja flick we've seen to date. After losing multiple family members to ninja violence (LOL), Cho swears off the ninja way, and he, his mother and his infant son, Kane, move from Japan to their new home in America. All is quiet for 6 years as Cho opens a successful art gallery and raises his son away from the violence of their homeland. That is until Cho discovers his business partner has been using their gallery as a front to sell heroin to the local mafia, who are not very happy with him... The thugs break into the gallery to steal the heroin, and kill Cho's mother in the process. Cho must once again embrace the way of the ninja, and sets off on a vengeful path to save his son. This movie is equal parts unintentional hilarity, and straight-up badassery. Listen up as we discus

Second Class Cinema Episode 56: The Necro Files (1997)

It's our one year anniversary! Woo. To make this episode extra special to us, we decided to watch the 1997 movie The Necro Files. Why is that special you ask? Our movie tonight was directed by Matt Jaissle, also the director of the first movie we covered Back From Hell (if you decide to listen be warned, it's rough)! We were lucky enough to interview Matt Jaissle about his work and you can find that embeded below as well. Tom purchased this movie and waited for the right time to watch it and I think we found it. Listen up Bonus interview with director Matt Jaissle This is that crazy part we talk about:
