Cinedigm announced today that The Film Detective (TFD), the classic film restoration and streaming company, will release The Tarzan Vault Collection, featuring Tarzan of the Apes (1918), The Adventures of Tarzan (1921) and The New Adventures of Tarzan II (the complete version of the 1935 film serial) on special edition Blu-ray and DVD, Aug. 23. Edgar Rice Burroughs' hero has thrilled movie audiences since the days of the silent screen. Tarzan of the Apes, with the brawny Elmo Lincoln in the leading role, introduced the character to movie audiences and told the traditional tale of how the orphaned heir to the Greystoke fortune became lord of the jungle. Lincoln was so impressive in the role that he returned three years later in Adventures of Tarzan, this time to rescue his beloved Jane from the clutches of the evil Queen La.   George Jung, the drug smuggler immortalized by Johnny Depp in “Blow,” left Weymouth for California in the late ’60s with pennies in his pocket, two cases of Budweiser in the backseat and his best pal riding shotgun.    Forty years – and four prison stints later – Jung returned to visit his boyhood home at   30 Abigail Adams Circle. New distribution company Radiance Films was formed by industry veteran Francesco Simeoni and this month inked distribution deals with MVD Entertainment Group for North America and with Elevation Sales for the United Kingdom and Ireland.  The label will focus on prestige library titles for collector's edition releases on Blu-ray and digital. The label will aim to release 30 titles per year including new restorations and theatrical reissues for select titles.  Radiance is in discussion with multiple licensors about launch titles.  Simeoni, who left Arrow Films recently after twelve years, will be acting as Managing Director.  Simeoni was Director of Content at Arrow and oversaw the company's large slate of releases in multiple territories, including beloved classics like Robocop and Bicycle Thieves.  Simeoni commented, "I am thrilled to be undertaking this new venture and believe there is a large opportunity for a nimble and innovative distributor in the library space. AMC Networks’ premium streaming bundle AMC+ and RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, have acquired the action film, SECTION 8. It will be released In Theaters and AMC+ on September 23, 2022. 30WEST announced today that Finn Wolfhard (It, Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and Billy Bryk (When You Finish Saving the World) will direct Hell of a Summer, which is based on their original script. Wolfhard, Bryk, and Fred Hechinger (“The White Lotus,” The Woman in the Window) will star in the contemporary horror-comedy, with plot details being kept under wraps.  Hechinger, Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Parts and Labor’s Jay Van Hoy will produce the film, with principal photography beginning this month in Ontario, Canada. 30WEST is fully financing, executive producing the film and co-representing the worldwide rights alongside CAA Media Finance.
