FREEDOM'S PATH to Hit Theaters July 28, Followed by VOD in August

The Forge has acquired North American rights to Brett Smith’s feature film FREEDOM’S PATH. The award-winning drama stars Gerran Howell (1917), RJ Cyler (ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL), Ewen Bremner (T2 TRAINSPOTTING), Afemo Omilami (FORREST GUMP), Steven Swadling (KICKBOXER), Thomas Jefferson Byrd (SET IT OFF), and Harrison Gilbertson (OPPENHEIMER). The film will be released in select theaters on July 28, 2023, and followed by release on video-on-demand and all digital platforms on August 4, 2023.

After a Union soldier (Gerran Howell) flees from battle, rescue comes unexpectedly from a free black man (RJ Cyler) operating a section of the Underground Railway. But when a ruthless and desperate slave catcher (Ewen Bremner) discovers the secret network, he conspires to bring it burning to the ground.

Written and directed by Brett Smith, FREEDOM’S PATH was produced by Smith, AJ Winslow, James Pidgeon, Steven Michael Swadling, and Neko Sparks. Dexter Braff, RJ Cyler, Jory Weitz, Skip Williamson, BK Fulton, Kerri Elder, and Blake Elder executive produced, with Dwayne Clark, Kelly Waller, Manish Majithia, and Matthew Goldman serving as co-executive producers. Production companies include 1812 Films, Rocket Soul Studios, Room in the Sky Films, Rock Hill Studios, and Soulidifly Productions.

An alternative distribution and sales model that puts the filmmakers first, The Forge is serving as the world sales agent for FREEDOM’S PATH in addition to distributing the film in North America. 

The deal was brokered by Mark Sayre on behalf of The Forge, and producers Brett Smith, Steven Swadling, AJ Winslow, and James Pidgeon on behalf of Freedom's Path Feature Film, LLC.
