Red Sonja Returns: Matilda Lutz Leads the Charge in Reboot Slashing Into Theaters August 15th

The She-Devil with a Sword is back — and she’s more ferocious than ever. Samuel Goldwyn Films has officially dropped the exhilarating new trailer for Red Sonja, the long-anticipated reboot of the iconic comic book heroine. Directed by MJ Bassett (Solomon Kane, Ash vs Evil Dead), the film will premiere in theaters August 15th, with a digital release to follow on August 29th.

Starring Matilda Lutz (Revenge), Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), and Martyn Ford (F9), the film promises a gritty, blood-soaked adventure full of vengeance, rebellion, and redemption. Lutz takes the mantle as Red Sonja, a warrior captured and chained, forced to fight for her life in the brutal pits of a tyrant’s empire. Rallying an army of the oppressed, she sets out to bring down the vicious warlord Dragan and his merciless bride, Dark Annisia.

“The fans are ready, the movie is ready, and I can’t wait to share Red Sonja’s story with the world,” said producer Luke Lieberman, son of Red Sonja co-creator Roy Thomas. “Those who know her will see the heart and fire they love, and newcomers will discover the true She-Devil with a Sword.”

Fans won’t have to wait long for an early taste of the sword-swinging action. The Red Sonja team is heading to San Diego Comic-Con, where a panel will take place at 5:30 p.m. PT on July 24th in Ballroom 20. Stars Matilda Lutz, Robert Sheehan, and Martyn Ford will join the conversation, offering behind-the-scenes insight into the high-octane reboot.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Red Sonja to audiences across the nation,” said Peter Goldwyn, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “The fanbase for the legendary character is big and passionate, and we’re confident that this film will deliver for them.”

With its release now on the horizon, the buzz surrounding Red Sonja continues to grow. Producers Mark Canton, Jonathan Yunger, and Luke Lieberman — along with SGF — are betting big on this bold, modern take on a classic heroine. And by all accounts, they’re not just swinging for the swordplay. This Red Sonja aims to be a fierce embodiment of female power in fantasy storytelling.

“It’s been an incredible journey bringing this iconic character to life,” added producer Jonathan Yunger. “Director MJ Bassett and star Matilda Lutz have crafted an unforgettable filmic adaptation of her story.”

For fans old and new, August 15th marks the return of a true legend — and the start of a new chapter in the saga of Red Sonja.

Explaining the Ending of MULHOLLAND DRIVE

MULHOLLAND DRIVE is a complex and surreal film directed by David Lynch, known for its non-linear narrative and dreamlike sequences. The ending is open to interpretation and has been the subject of much debate among viewers. Here's a breakdown of the ending: Diane's Dream vs. Reality: Throughout the film, there are two main narrative threads: one follows Betty/Diane's dreamlike experiences in Hollywood, and the other delves into Diane's harsh reality. The ending reveals that the majority of the film has been a dream constructed by Diane Selwyn, a failed actress, as a means to escape the guilt and pain of her actions. Betty/Diane's Descent into Madness: Betty, played by Naomi Watts, represents Diane's idealized self—a hopeful and innocent aspiring actress. However, as the film progresses, it becomes clear that Betty's story is unraveling, and her identity begins to merge with Diane's. This culminates in the revelation that Betty is merely a construct of Di...

4K Blu-ray Review: Drop (2025) — A Tense, Tech-Driven Thriller That Mostly Sticks the Landing

In Drop, director Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day) crafts a nerve-wracking thriller centered on a devastating dilemma: would you take a life to save the ones you love? The story follows Violet, a widowed single mom attempting to re-enter the dating world after years of grief and recovery. Played with emotional precision by Meghann Fahy, Violet finds herself on a promising first date with the affable and seemingly genuine Henry (Brandon Sklenar) in an elegant, glass-walled Chicago restaurant. But their evening takes a sinister turn when Violet receives a disturbing message via a sleek, anonymous app called DigiDrop: if she doesn’t kill her date before the check arrives, her son and sister will die. What unfolds is a tightly wound 95-minute thriller that feels both classic and timely. The film builds its suspense through confinement, not action. Most of the story unfolds in real-time at their dinner table, creating a pressure-cooker environment that reflects Violet’s psycholo...
