Acclaimed comedian and podcast host Marc Maron is the subject of a new documentary, Are We Good?, which will open in New York and Los Angeles theaters on October 3, 2025, followed by nationwide theatrical events on October 5 and October 8. Tickets go on sale beginning September 3.
Directed by filmmaker Steven Feinartz, the feature offers an intimate portrait of Maron as he navigates grief, personal reinvention, and the evolving world of stand-up comedy. The film has already made waves on the festival circuit, earning official selections at both the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival and the Tribeca Festival.
In addition to Maron’s own story, Are We Good? features candid conversations with some of today’s most prominent comics, including Nate Bargatze, John Mulaney, David Cross, Michaela Watkins, W. Kamau Bell, Laurie Kilmartin, Sam Lipsyte, and Brendan McDonald. The documentary also incorporates rare footage from Maron’s long-running and influential WTF podcast, including interviews with cultural figures such as President Barack Obama, Andrew Garfield, and Patton Oswalt..
At its core, Are We Good? chronicles a pivotal moment in Maron’s life: the sudden loss of his partner, filmmaker Lynn Shelton, and his subsequent confrontation with grief, doubt, and resilience. With a runtime of 95 minutes, the documentary promises to deliver both a deeply personal exploration and a broader reflection on the shifting comedy landscape Maron has helped shape.
Are We Good? is poised to be not just a chronicle of Maron’s career, but also a moving meditation on creativity, loss, and the ability to find meaning through humor.
